Environmental Justice and Air Quality in the Era of Citizen Science
Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre Hotel 1088 Burrard St, VancouverRunning-Grass will be making a presentation at the 2020 Air Quality and Health Workshop in Vancouver, B.C. in February. The theme of this year’s conference is “Environmental Justice of Air Quality in the Era of Citizen Science”. His presentation focuses on the policy implications of EJ and the value of cultural assets and social capital in community based science projects. The focus of the BC Lung Association's upcoming 17th Annual Air Quality and Health Workshop is the environmental justice of air quality in the era of citizen science. Marginalized communities are often disproportionately exposed to environmental hazards in comparison with the overall population. In response, the environmental justice movement has evolved, with a focus on equitable distribution of environmental benefits and burdens. The concept of environmental justice includes not only equal protection for all people under environmental laws, regulations, and policies, but also significant involvement of potentially impacted communities in environmental policy and natural resource development decisions. Organized annually, the workshop brings together air quality and environmental health experts and policymakers to share new insights regarding priority public health issues. Register Here
